David Malukas will switch from the papaya colors to the pink style of Meyer Shank Racing for the remaining races of the 2024 NTT IndyCar Series season. The change will take effect starting from the race in Laguna Seca in two weeks.
Malukas will take over car #66, replacing Tom Blomqvist, who was sidelined by the team after the Indianapolis 500 but remains with the team. Helio Castroneves, a veteran driver, will be behind the wheel for this weekend’s race at Road America before returning to his role as a team partner.
Mike Shank, co-owner of Meyer Shank Racing, expressed the difficulty of the decision-making process. The team considered several factors to regain ground in the championship and Leader Circle standings. They are pleased to have Malukas joining them, as he brings experience and potential. The team is looking forward to starting with him in the test session in Milwaukee and then racing together in Laguna.
Malukas was originally scheduled to race in car #6 for Arrow McLaren this season. However, a wrist injury from a pre-season mountain bike accident delayed his debut. After four races without being able to compete, Arrow McLaren exercised a clause in his contract and released him. Now, Malukas is grateful for the opportunity to finish the season with Meyer Shank Racing. He has been diligently dedicated to his recovery and is determined to deliver strong performances for the team and its supporters.
Malukas will have his first experience driving the MSR car in a test session at the Milwaukee Mile Speedway on June 11, ten days before the first practice session in Laguna Seca.
