Lewis Hamilton has not won a race in Formula 1 since the 2021 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.
The seven-time world champion says that Mercedes is making progress after their relatively successful performances in recent races. Hamilton finished fourth in FP1 session of the Canadian GP yesterday.
Mercedes has been struggling to compete against Ferrari, McLaren, and Red Bull. Currently, they are ranked as the fourth fastest team in terms of race pace. However, the team showed promising signs during the Monaco GP, which has created opportunities for them in Montreal.
Mercedes is using new updates on the front wing on Lewis Hamilton and George Russell’s cars in hopes of improving their speed in Montreal. Russell’s W15 had already tested the new front wing in Monaco and had positive results in qualifying.
Although Mercedes has not secured a podium or a win this season yet, they are confident in the car’s development for the upcoming races. Russell and Hamilton will do their best to maximize the potential of the W15 in Montreal, aiming to end their winless streak.
George Russell expressed caution regarding the 2026 F1 regulations, which will increase the cars’ top speed. The new regulations focus on greater use of electric power and reduced weight distribution.
According to the FIA, the 2026 cars will be slightly slower in corners but faster on straights compared to current cars. Therefore, concerns about safety on faster circuits like Jeddah and Baku need to be addressed for the well-being of the drivers.
George Russell previously shared his excitement about the new regulations, which will have a significant impact on how teams work on their cars and strategies for the races. The British driver is hopeful that these new regulations will benefit Mercedes as they strive to regain their position at the top of Formula 1.
