Beth Paretta, advocate for women’s involvement in motorsport, has joined the Formula E team of experts. Paretta, who has over 20 years of experience in the automotive and motorsport industries, including leading the all-female-led Paretta Autosport team, has been appointed as Vice President of Sports for Formula E. In her new role, she will oversee the interactions between Formula E, the FIA, and the teams. While increasing diversity in the series is not the main focus of her role, Paretta remains passionate about bringing more women to the racetracks. Formula E initially had some success in putting women in race seats, but female presence on the grid has since decreased. Paretta believes that women need more opportunities and time behind the wheel to succeed in the sport. The lack of funding and visible role models has hindered the progress of women in motorsport. Efforts such as Girls on Track and the F1 Academy aim to attract young girls to the sport, but more needs to be done to create a proper ladder for aspiring drivers. Formula E should also establish a grassroots series to develop drivers and ensure a new generation of talent. The sport should not only encourage female drivers but also attract drivers from various categories around the world. Currently, the majority of FIA racing license holders are men, highlighting the need for more female competitors. The physical differences between men and women should not be a complete barrier to entry in motorsport, as the sport relies not only on physical ability. Paretta suggests that minimum weight requirements be adjusted to accommodate different body types. Her goal is to create equal opportunities for all drivers, regardless of gender. Formula E already has a significant number of women in technical and commercial roles, which is a testament to the diversity in the championship. However, there is still work to be done to increase women’s representation at the racetrack and in all teams. Paretta aims to accelerate progress and create lasting legacies by promoting diversity in Formula E.
