Gasly signs contract extension with Alpine F1 that will keep him in the team in the near future. The announcement was made on Thursday, confirming that Gasly will continue to be part of the Anglo-French Formula 1 squad. Unlike his teammate Esteban Ocon, who decided to leave Alpine, Gasly chose to stay with the team.
The 2024 season has been challenging for Alpine, with a slow and heavy car at the beginning of the year. This led to the departure of Technical Director Matt Harman and Chief Aerodynamicist Dirk de Beer. However, the team underwent a restructuring, with David Sanchez leading a new triple technical structure. As a result, Alpine has seen an improvement in its performance, scoring points in three consecutive races.
Gasly expressed his satisfaction with the team and his commitment to the project. He stated that he feels at home with the team and enjoys being part of both the Formula 1 project and the broader vision of Alpine Cars. Despite the challenges faced this season, Gasly remains dedicated to the team and believes in its potential. He is excited about the future and is currently focused on daily efforts to improve his performance.
Gasly’s new agreement with Alpine will see him drive the cars of the Anglo-French squad throughout the new Formula 1 regulations of 2026, which may present ample opportunities for the team to rise in the competitive hierarchy.
It is still unknown who will join Gasly at Alpine for 2025 and beyond.
The team is evaluating its rising driver, Jack Doohan, through a series of assessments in their 2022 Formula 1 vehicle, and FIA World Endurance Championship driver Mick Schumacher is also being considered as a possible replacement.
Furthermore, following the controversial appointment of Flavio Briatore as Executive Consultant of Alpine, rumors emerged that Alpine had tried to secure Carlos Sainz, and a supposed proposal was made during the Spanish Grand Prix weekend.
However, Team Director Bruno Famin is pleased to have one piece of his 2025 puzzle solved.
“The extension of Pierre’s contract with the team is highly rewarding,” he expressed.
“He is a driver with extensive Formula 1 experience and consistently demonstrates immense potential on the track. As a brand, he serves as an excellent ambassador for Alpine, and as such, we look forward to continuing our collaboration.
“While this is crucial for our future, we must also remain vigilant about what is to come and focus our efforts on improving our current package.
“We have high aspirations for the current season and will make tireless efforts to achieve our goals. We will take the necessary time to choose Pierre’s teammate, and we are excited about the options available to us.”
