Jorge Martin affirms that his new MotoGP team, Aprilia, “will make the maximum effort for me” in 2025, after the announcement that he will transfer from Pramac Ducati next season.
The series of events in the rider market began when it was revealed that Martin was the preferred choice to replace current rider Enea Bastianini in the factory Ducati team.
However, Ducati reversed this decision when Marc Marquez declined a possible move to Pramac and Ducati hurried to secure him a place alongside Francesco Bagnaia.
The Italian brand’s promotion of the eight-time champion led Martin, the current championship leader, to seek opportunities elsewhere, and he chose to join Aprilia.
Martin expressed his frustration at being overlooked for the coveted MotoGP seat for the second time, but found comfort in knowing that Aprilia will provide him with maximum support.
“Undoubtedly, it was a busy weekend in Mugello, even though I didn’t know [what was happening behind the scenes],” he said in Assen.
“I arrived in Mugello with some ideas, with some information that changed quite a bit during the weekend.
“So as soon as the race ended, I realized that maybe it wasn’t so clear, so I had to make a decision.
“I understood that sometimes in life things don’t happen as you anticipate or wish.
“Certainly, it was a bit frustrating, not in Mugello, but afterwards, after four years trying to join the factory team.
“I realized that I wasn’t the chosen one or the best solution for Ducati. That was Marc.
“But I took the best opportunity I could, I believe I will be much happier in the coming years where I’m going and I will also be a factory rider, that was my aspiration.
“So, I’m going to a place where they really want me and where they will make the maximum effort for me.
“I am frustrated because, after so much time trying to join [the factory team]. It always seemed like it would never happen and, finally, it didn’t happen, so it was straight.
“But I wasn’t completely convinced that I would get in there because of that. Things happen as they should, but I am satisfied with what happened.”
Despite his imminent transfer to rival Aprilia, Ducati has assured Martin that he will continue to receive full support during the remaining stages of this season.
Martin maintains an 18-point advantage over Bagnaia in the Drivers’ Championship, which increases the likelihood that he will be able to take the number 1 to Ducati’s main competitor.
“From my part, I am a professional rider, I am contracted by Ducati, I race for Ducati and, for now, until Valencia, Ducati is my home,” explained Martin.
“I will give my maximum effort to win or give my best to try to win and, in this case, they have also informed me that I will have the same equipment that I have had so far.
“So I am confident that it will not be a problem and I can compete with these two people on equal terms.”
