Formula 1 driver for RB, Yuki Tsunoda, was fined €40,000, with half of the fine suspended, for using a derogatory term during qualifying for the Austrian Grand Prix. Tsunoda expressed frustration over the radio about the queue in the pit lane and another car merging onto the fast lane in front of him. He used offensive language, referring to the other drivers as “r*******”. The FIA stewards, including former Grand Prix winner Johnny Herbert, deemed the language used inappropriate and offensive, resulting in a violation of the International Sporting Code. Tsunoda apologized for his words, acknowledging that he was not aware of the implications in English. He offered to apologize publicly, leading to the suspension of part of the fine. The FIA’s decision to penalize Tsunoda for his language demonstrates their commitment to addressing such inappropriate behavior.
