The European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) announced on Thursday that the European automotive market recorded a growth of 13.9% in 2023 compared to 2022, reaching a total of 10.5 million units.
According to ACEA data, electric vehicles once again performed well, with 1.5 million units sold, representing 14.6% of the European market, surpassing diesel vehicles for the first time, which had a market share of 13.6%. Gasoline cars maintained their lead with 35.3%, while hybrid-electric cars took second place with a market share of 25.8%.
ACEA data also indicates that the 100% electric vehicle market decreased for the first time since April 2020 in the last month of 2023, partly due to a significant slowdown in Germany (-47.6%) recorded in December, after the end of subsidies for the purchase of electric vehicles in the largest electric vehicle market in Europe.
