This Monday, Mitchel van den Brink imposed himself in the eighth stage of the Dakar in trucks. However, he posed little to no threat to the leader of the classification.
The Dutchman, in an Iveco from Eurol Rallysport, led practically throughout the entire route and finished ahead of Martin Macik (MM Technology/Iveco) by 1m18s. Ales Loprais (Instaforex Loprais Praga) achieved the third time at 13m45s, while Janus van Kasteren (Boss Machinery Team de Rooy FPT/Iveco) reached the fourth time.
With four days left, Macik comfortably leads the overall standings, with a 1h49m20s margin over van den Brink. Loprais is third at 1h51m37s. Macik does not have to take big risks until the end, with an extensive lead to manage. Van Kasteren, who dominated in the early days, is now fourth, more than four hours behind the top. Vick Versteijnen (Versteijnen Truck Racing/Iveco) is in fifth.
