Toyota had already announced its intention to produce in the Ovar factory in Portugal an inclusive electric mobility vehicle, the Accessible People Mover (APM), to provide “last kilometer” services and transport people with special accessibility needs during the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris.
Now it has been confirmed that the APM, a 100% electric vehicle, will be produced in Portugal in the first quarter of 2024. The mass production of electric vehicles is scheduled to begin next month, in February. However, at an event held at Toyota Caetano with Prime Minister António Costa and several government members, the Japanese brand showcased the first pre-production unit.
It is already known that the Ovar factory will produce 250 units of the APM intended to support the transportation of athletes, visitors, and staff in various facilities, including event or competition venues and other official locations such as the Olympic Village. The model, with a range of up to 100km and a maximum speed of 20 km/h, was designed in Belgium by Toyota Motor Europe and is ready for production in Portugal.
