Hertz Team JOTA is set to take over Cadillac Racing’s FIA WEC Hypercar effort in 2025. The UK-based team will transition from being a privateer with Porsche to becoming a factory team for GM. This move coincides with the implementation of a new two-car requirement for manufacturers in the FIA WEC. The team will now be known as Cadillac Hertz Team JOTA, distinguishing it from Cadillac Racing, which has been the team name since 2023 when Cadillac and CGR joined the WEC’s top category.
“Cadillac is proud to compete against the world’s best in the FIA World Endurance Championship, and that includes Hertz Team JOTA,” said John Roth, Global Cadillac’s Vice President. “We are excited to welcome Hertz Team JOTA next year, as their decades of racing and technical expertise will contribute to our continued success on the track and help promote our brand globally.”
This will be JOTA’s first venture as a factory team after a successful decade in LMP2 competition. They have achieved multiple class wins at Le Mans and secured 10 podium finishes at La Sarthe between 2014 and 2022. In 2023, JOTA made the leap to the WEC’s top class and became the first privateer Hypercar team to win an overall WEC race at the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps.
“JOTA has always aspired to be a manufacturer team, and joining forces with Cadillac is the realization of this goal,” said Sam Hignett, Director and Founder of Hertz Team JOTA. “Having competed against the Cadillac V-Series.R for the past two seasons, we have witnessed its competitiveness, and we are honored to be entrusted with fielding its cars from 2025 onwards. We have experienced record-breaking success in the FIA World Endurance Championship, particularly at Le Mans, and we look forward to continuing this success with Cadillac and Hertz.”
The confirmation of the Chip Ganassi Racing-JOTA swap in the WEC comes after General Motors decided to end its partnership with CGR after the 2024 season. CGR’s Managing Director, Mike Hull, stated, “We would never close the book on General Motors in terms of the future.” Cadillac’s search for a new Hypercar service provider was extensive. The drivers for JOTA’s V-Series.R cars will be announced in due course, along with the official unveiling of the team that will replace Ganassi in IMSA GTP.
It is widely anticipated that Acura’s current factory team, WTRAndretti, will be named as a Cadillac factory team in North America alongside Action Express for the 2025 season.
