The GNR begins on Friday, December 15, the “Christmas and New Year” operation with an increase in road patrols on the busiest roads during this period, in order to ensure the festivities and safe travel throughout the national territory.
In a statement, the GNR stated that the Christmas and New Year operation, which runs until January 2, will involve “several aspects of the Guard, with a view to complementarity and synergy of various patrol, awareness and enforcement actions, in a flexible manner, directing efforts to contribute to the reduction of overall crime and road accidents, to ensure traffic flow and to promote support for users on the roads”.
On the roads, the GNR will be “particularly attentive to risky driver behavior, namely speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol, dangerous maneuvers, proper signaling and execution of overtaking, changing direction and yielding, improper use of mobile phones, correct circulation in the rightmost lane on highways and main and secondary routes, as well as incorrect or non-use of seat belts and/or child restraint systems”, the statement adds.
