The Hyundai Group has just introduced a new tire technology with integrated snow chains. The system uses modules located inside the wheel and tire, which are designed to extend outward when an electrical signal is received. That is, whenever a specific driving mode is selected on the vehicle’s dashboard.
Unlike traditional snow chains, which are complicated to install and remove, this technology makes the whole process automatic. “This innovation, which we hope can be introduced in Hyundai and Kia vehicles, reflects our commitment to turning advanced technologies into real-world solutions that benefit customers,” said Joon Mo Park, Head of the Advanced Chassis Development Team. “We will continue to develop technologies that improve the safety and convenience of our vehicles and add value to our customers.”
The integrated snow chain tire technology consists of a wheel and tire assembly that features radial grooves at regular intervals, like a pizza, with modules made of a specific alloy inserted into these channels. Currently, the technology has a pending patent in South Korea and the US.
