Carlos Alcaraz has expressed his desire to become the ATP world No 1 by the end of the 2024 season. The Spanish player considers this to be one of his primary objectives and emphasizes the significance of the Race to the ATP Finals. Alcaraz is currently participating in the Cincinnati tournament, his first since winning a silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics. He finished second after a thrilling match against Novak Djokovic.
In the ATP Rankings, Alcaraz is currently ranked third, with Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic in the first and second positions respectively. Alcaraz was a runner-up in the Cincinnati Masters in 2023 and will need to reach the final or win the Masters 1000 event this year to improve his points ranking.
Jannik Sinner is currently leading the ATP Race to Turin Rankings with 6,410 points, while Novak Djokovic is in second place with 5,960 points. The Race Rankings only consider points from the current year and determine the eight players who qualify for the ATP Finals. Despite being behind Sinner and Djokovic, Alcaraz remains determined to chase them and secure the top position in both the ATP Rankings and the Race Rankings.
He believes that ending the year as No 1 in the Race will essentially mean ending the year as the overall No 1. Alcaraz is focused on performing well in every tournament and achieving good results to improve his ranking in the Race. His main goal for this year is to finish as the No 1 player and he is excited about the upcoming matches in Cincinnati. Alcaraz is prepared to give his best and hopes to face Sinner in the final.
