Brooklyn Nets’ Dark Times: Kevin Durant’s Failed Stint
In a shocking turn of events, the Brooklyn Nets have experienced a downward spiral over the past three years. Despite high hopes surrounding Kevin Durant’s arrival, the team failed to live up to expectations. Off-court issues, controversies, and on-court shortcomings plagued Durant’s tenure in Brooklyn.
Durant’s recent return to Barclays Center was met with a tribute video, despite his explicit request to forgo such recognition. Sports analyst Chris Canty observed Durant’s demeanor during the tribute, describing him as “absolutely miserable.” It’s no wonder, considering Durant has become the face of one of the most disastrous roster constructions in NBA history, as Canty pointed out on Unsportsmanlike Radio.
While this assessment may seem harsh, it holds some truth. Durant consistently performed at a high level whenever he was available, but he cannot be held accountable for Kyrie Irving’s issues or James Harden’s sudden trade request. In fact, Durant nearly single-handedly led the Nets to the Eastern Conference Finals, always showing up to play when healthy.
It is unfair to make Durant a scapegoat at Barclays Center. The negative spotlight should perhaps be directed towards Irving or Harden. However, as a future Hall of Famer and arguably the greatest pure scorer in NBA history, Durant will inevitably be singled out due to this colossal failure.
