New England Patriots’ safety Jabrill Peppers faces serious legal trouble following his arrest over the weekend. The 28-year-old was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, strangulation, and possession of a Class B substance by Braintree, Massachusetts police on Saturday. The news has shocked teammates and fans alike.
Disturbing details from the incident report have since surfaced. According to Peppers’ girlfriend, the Patriots captain allegedly choked her multiple times, slammed her head into a wall, and pushed her down a flight of stairs. The police were called at 4:15 AM, with the woman claiming Peppers had assaulted her, removed her clothing, and left her outside.
Peppers, however, strongly denies the accusations. His attorney claims Peppers had repeatedly asked the woman to leave his apartment without physical confrontation. The defense has stated they possess video and other evidence that contradicts the woman’s account. Peppers was released on bond following his arraignment at Quincy District Court and has a hearing set for November 22.
The New England Patriots and the NFL have chosen not to take immediate action, pending further investigation. Head coach Jerod Mayo and the team are aware of the situation and have communicated with the league office. Until the legal proceedings advance, Peppers is expected to continue playing, having signed a three-year extension with the Patriots earlier this offseason.
