New York Mets outfielder Jesse Winker isn’t holding back when it comes to his feelings about the Milwaukee Brewers and their fans. In an interview with The New York Post, Winker said, “As far as Milwaukee goes, I’ll hate them forever.” His remarks stem from a turbulent stint with the Brewers in 2023, where injuries and underperformance soured his time with the team and its fans.
Reflecting on his struggles in Milwaukee, Winker admitted he didn’t meet expectations during the season, which he partly attributes to offseason surgeries and ongoing injuries. “I felt obligated to play, and I didn’t perform,” he told the Post. But even as he acknowledged his performance issues, his resentment for Milwaukee didn’t soften, saying, “These fans, they can react however they want…but I’ll hate the city of Milwaukee forever.”
Brewers fans, unsurprisingly, feel the same way. After booing him during the recent wild-card series, many have taken to social media to share their thoughts on Winker’s performance. One fan wrote on X, “We have all the right to hate him.” Even Wisconsin’s Lakeshore Chinooks joined in the shade, tweeting a “Jesse Winker Special” for $1.99 general admission tickets in honor of Winker’s .199 batting average with the Brewers.
Winker’s time in Milwaukee was riddled with injuries, and his numbers were disappointing—batting just .199 and spending significant time on the injured list with multiple setbacks. Now with the Mets, Winker seems ready to move on, though it’s clear the bitterness between him and Milwaukee fans is mutual. As one X user humorously quipped, “Jesse Winker is going to single-handedly revive Wisconsin through a vengeance economy.”
