On his FS1 show The Herd, Colin Cowherd didn’t hold back, calling out Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott as the primary obstacle to the team’s future success. While discussing the Cowboys’ challenging schedule over the next seven games, Cowherd argued that Dallas’ biggest issue isn’t their rushing game, defense, or depth—it’s Prescott’s inability to elevate those around him and the weight of his contract.
“For what they’re paying Dak moving forward, the Dallas Cowboys, with an eighty-one-year-old general manager, have got to nail draft picks,” Cowherd stated. “They have to find stars in the third, fourth, fifth rounds. Dak, unlike Patrick Mahomes or Lamar Jackson, has no proof he can elevate solid players; he needs stars around him.”
Cowherd’s critique echoes a frustration shared by many Cowboys fans: while Prescott has had quality players throughout his career, his impact without elite weapons has been questioned. He emphasized the importance of landing draft steals, similar to how Pete Carroll’s Seattle Seahawks discovered stars like Richard Sherman and Kam Chancellor in later rounds, to compensate for the lack of Prescott’s game-changing ability.
If the Cowboys’ season falters, Cowherd suggests that calling the Las Vegas Raiders about a potential trade for Davante Adams could be a bold move to salvage the season. “I have suggested Derrick Henry as the solution, but they ran out of money… so they had the worst running back room in the league,” he said. “There are those who are saying, what about Davante Adams? Very interesting.”
While Prescott remains under intense scrutiny, Dallas’ aging ownership and high-stakes management may face tough decisions as the team pushes through its schedule. For Cowboys fans, the question now is whether adding a playmaker like Adams or leaning on Prescott will ultimately keep their playoff hopes alive.
