In a recovery from the seventh position on the starting grid, Charles Leclerc finished the Sprint race of the São Paulo Grand Prix of Formula 1 in fifth place. A result that he considers to be the best possible yesterday afternoon in Interlagos.
Although it was a race for which he started at a disadvantage due to the tire option, the Monegasque driver of Ferrari considers that the outcome ended up being satisfactory since he was able to surpass one of the Mercedes drivers:
– We did a good job and there wasn’t much more that was possible. Not using the new tires in qualifying [Sprint Shootout], choosing to keep them for the Sunday GP, we knew we would be at a disadvantage for the Sprint. Anyway, we did well, finishing in fifth place and ahead of Lewis [Hamilton], who qualified with a new set of soft tires. They are our main competitors this year, so being able to fight with them is a good sign’.
