The Philadelphia 76ers made a big offseason splash by signing Paul George, but their championship hopes still rest firmly on the shoulders of MVP Joel Embiid. While Embiid showcased his skills for Team USA at the 2024 Olympics and looked healthy, he has yet to appear in preseason action as he manages a lingering left knee issue from last season. The Sixers confirmed that Embiid will sit out the remainder of preseason to focus on a specialized recovery plan, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.
“Joel Embiid is out for the remainder of the preseason, 76ers say. He was assessed by doctors on Thursday as part of his left knee management… [and] will continue to take part in an individual treatment plan designed to best support his health,” Scotto reported.
The decision to rest Embiid may raise questions, but for Philadelphia, it’s a calculated move. Preseason games hold little significance, and ensuring their star is healthy for the long haul is paramount. With Opening Night around the corner, Embiid remains on track for a return, though his fitness will be under scrutiny all season. Sixers fans can rest easy knowing the team’s approach prioritizes his health in pursuit of a title run in 2024-25.
