LIV Golf Moves Forward with 14 Events in 2024
LIV Golf, the breakaway circuit, is forging ahead with its own plans for the 2024 season after failing to reach a partnership agreement with the PGA Tour. Despite ongoing negotiations, LIV Golf has scheduled 14 events for the upcoming season.
As the season gets underway in Mexico at El Camaleon Golf Course at Mayakoba, fans can expect some changes to the format. The governing body of LIV Golf has announced several enhancements, including an expansion of the overall field.
In the first two seasons, each tournament featured a field of 48 players, divided into 12 four-man teams. However, the addition of a 13th team, led by two-time major champion Jon Rahm and featuring new addition Tyrrell Hatton, as well as two Wild Card players, will increase the field size to 54 players for each LIV Golf event.
The league format for the 2024 season will see the top 24 players in the individual LIV Golf standings automatically retain their spots for the following year. Players in slots 25-48, known as the Open Zone, will need to be re-signed by their current team or signed by another team to maintain their status. Those in the Drop Zone, ranking 49th or lower, will lose their status and must work their way back through the 2024 LIV Golf Promotions event.
Despite the expanded field, only the top 24 finishers in each event will receive individual points. In the event of a tie, points will be evenly distributed among those with the same score. Tiebreakers will only be used to determine podium positions.
The individual prize money has been adjusted to accommodate the additional six players in the field. However, the top prize remains unchanged, with the tournament winner still earning $4 million.
As LIV Golf embarks on its third year, fans can anticipate an exciting season with these new developments. Stay tuned for more updates and action-packed golf tournaments.
LIV Golf Team Competition Gets a Major Overhaul
In a major shake-up, the LIV Golf team competition is introducing some exciting new changes that are sure to keep fans on the edge of their seats. The biggest alteration comes in the form of the final round, where the top three scores from each four-man team used to be counted for all three rounds. However, in a surprising twist, all four scores will now be tallied in the final round, a move that is bound to have a significant impact on the tournament’s outcome. In the past, this rule change would have undoubtedly altered the results of previous tournaments. The team with the lowest cumulative score will still claim victory, making for an intense battle until the very end.
Despite the changes to the scoring system, the payouts for the team competition will remain unchanged. The winning squad will take home a staggering $3 million, while the second-place team will walk away with $1.5 million. A respectable $500,000 will be awarded to the third-place finisher. These substantial cash prizes are sure to motivate the teams to bring their A-game and compete fiercely for the top spots.
As the regular season progresses, the top 12 teams will be seeded for the highly anticipated Team Championship tourney. However, the 13th team will not have the chance to compete in the event. Nevertheless, the members of this team are expected to be present and support their fellow competitors. The Team Championship promises to be a thrilling showdown, with the best teams in the league battling it out for ultimate glory.
With these exciting changes on the horizon, fans of LIV Golf are eagerly awaiting the upcoming tournaments. Stay tuned for all the latest updates and be sure to catch all the action as the teams vie for victory in this revamped competition.
