The Cleveland Browns shook things up on Tuesday, trading top receiver Amari Cooper to the Buffalo Bills in exchange for a 2025 third-round pick and a 2026 seventh-round pick, a move that leaves a big void in Cleveland’s lineup but gives Buffalo the reliable pass-catcher they’ve lacked since trading Stefon Diggs. Cooper, who joined the Browns in 2022, tallied 2,660 yards and 16 touchdowns in 38 games but had a slower start this season with only 250 yards and two touchdowns in six games.
With Cooper gone, newly acquired wideout Jerry Jeudy is set to step up as Cleveland’s No. 1 receiver. Jeudy, who came over in a March trade, has shown solid chemistry with quarterback Deshaun Watson, contributing 248 yards and a touchdown so far this season. Cleveland’s thin depth, however, led them to re-sign James Proche II to the practice squad and put more responsibility on rookie Jamari Thrash.
The Browns are struggling at 1-5 and rank dead last in total offense, a stat that highlights the urgency of reworking their lineup. They’ve also placed center Nick Harris on injured reserve, brought in Cameron Tom to the practice squad, and made additional roster adjustments. Cleveland GM Andrew Berry expressed gratitude for Cooper’s contributions, stating, “He created many memorable moments with us and was an integral part of our 2023 playoff team.”
In Buffalo, Cooper joins an offense led by Pro Bowl quarterback Josh Allen, with Bills head coach Sean McDermott hopeful Cooper’s arrival will bring much-needed energy to the team. The 4-2 Bills are set to face the Tennessee Titans this Sunday, giving Cooper a few days to adjust to his new squad.
As the Browns prepare for a critical AFC North matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals, their offense could see a new spark with the anticipated return of running back Nick Chubb, making his first start since last September.
