Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker has launched UPRIGHT PAC, a political action committee aimed at mobilizing Christian voters around “traditional values.” Chiefs owner Clark Hunt openly supports Butker’s initiative, stating that players are encouraged to use their platforms for impact, regardless of political leanings. Butker’s PAC has gained the endorsement of Missouri Senator Josh Hawley as he campaigns against Democrat Lucas Kunce in the upcoming election.
Butker, known for his strong views on marriage, gender issues, and opposition to Pride month and President Biden’s abortion stance, previously made waves with a controversial commencement speech at Benedictine College. While the NFL distanced itself from his statements, Butker remains firm in his convictions, stating, “There’s things that I believe wholeheartedly… I’m going to continue to say what I believe to be true.”
In contrast, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has refrained from endorsing candidates, instead encouraging people to vote based on personal values. As players like Butker step into political roles, Mahomes remains committed to using his influence for community engagement without aligning with specific political figures, a stance complicated by Taylor Swift’s recent endorsement of Kamala Harris.
