The interim head of ONU humanitarian aid, Joyce Msuya, has condemned the situation in northern Gaza, stating that Palestinians are enduring “indescribable horrors” amidst the ongoing conflict. Msuya made an urgent call for an end to the atrocities being committed, stressing the dire humanitarian crisis unfolding in the region.
“Horrific news continues to emerge from northern Gaza, where Palestinians are suffering under the siege of Israeli forces,” Msuya wrote on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter). She reiterated that “these atrocities must stop.”
Since October 6, 2023, Israel has launched an aggressive military campaign—both aerial and ground-based—in northern Gaza. The objective, according to Israeli authorities, is to prevent Hamas militants from regrouping in the area. However, the offensive has resulted in significant casualties, with over 400 deaths and tens of thousands displaced, according to local emergency services.
Msuya highlighted the importance of upholding international humanitarian law, which mandates the protection of civilians, including the wounded, the sick, and healthcare personnel, as well as their facilities. “International humanitarian law must be respected,” she emphasized, calling for immediate action to alleviate the suffering of the civilian population caught in the conflict.
