Donald Trump is ramping up his bold rhetoric ahead of the upcoming election, declaring that if China dares to make a move on Taiwan, he’d slap them with tariffs of up to 200%. In a fiery interview with the Wall Street Journal, Trump said: “If you go into Taiwan, I’m sorry, but I’m taxing you at 150 to 200 percent.”
But that’s not all. Trump insists military force wouldn’t even be necessary because, according to him, Chinese President Xi Jinping respects him too much to risk it. “Xi knows I’m f— crazy,” Trump boasted, crediting their “very strong relationship” for keeping China at bay.
In his ongoing campaign, Trump has also proposed new sweeping tariffs on virtually all imports, especially from China, which he claims will supercharge U.S. manufacturing. Not stopping there, Trump also took aim at Russia, insisting that Putin wouldn’t have dared invade Ukraine if Trump were still in office. “I told Putin, ‘If you go after Ukraine, I’ll hit you right in the middle of Moscow,’” Trump claimed.
With these fiery promises, Trump is painting himself as the only candidate tough enough to handle the global stage.
