A group of eleven former Republican officials has called on Attorney General Merrick Garland to investigate Tesla CEO Elon Musk, accusing him of bribery through his America PAC. In a letter obtained by The Washington Post, the officials argued that Musk’s recent initiative to pay registered voters for signing a petition supporting the First and Second Amendments constitutes a violation of voter registration laws.
The petition, linked to voter registration sites, offers payments to signatories and referrals, raising suspicions about its true intent. Critics, including former Bush administration officials and anti-Trump Republicans, claim Musk’s actions could potentially manipulate voter turnout, with some calling the petition’s vague language a “smokescreen” for bribery. Musk’s offer also includes a daily lottery prize of $1 million for signatories until Election Day, further intensifying calls for legal scrutiny.
