Hezbollah has appointed Sheikh Naim Qassem as its new secretary-general, succeeding Hassan Nasrallah, who was killed in an Israeli raid on Beirut last month. Qassem, long Nasrallah’s deputy and a key figure in Hezbollah since its inception, was elected by the Shura Council to carry forward the group’s mission of “resistance.” His appointment follows the assassination of Hashem Safieddine, another prominent Hezbollah leader, in recent Israeli strikes. Qassem’s deep roots and history with Hezbollah position him as a steadfast leader for the organization.
