In a meeting with Luxembourg’s Deputy Prime Minister Xavier Bettel, Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa urged the European Union to sanction Israel over its ongoing deductions from Palestinian tax revenues. Mustafa called on EU nations to pressure Israel into adhering to international laws and releasing the estimated $109 million withheld from Palestinian tax revenues since Israel’s Gaza campaign in October 2023.
These deductions, according to Israeli authorities, cover unpaid bills for electricity, water, and medical services provided to Palestinians, as well as salaries allegedly paid to Gaza employees. Mustafa argued that the EU’s intervention could set the stage for meaningful political dialogue aimed at achieving Palestinian statehood.
Luxembourg’s Bettel reiterated his country’s support for de-escalation efforts and humanitarian relief in Gaza, affirming continued EU financial assistance for Palestinian refugees and backing UN resolutions on Palestinian self-determination.
