Last year, Tesla shook up the car market by introducing the refreshed Model 3 Highland sedan in Europe before bringing it to America. However, their attention seemed to be focused on the highly anticipated Cybertruck, which is set to compete with the likes of the Ford F-150 Lightning, GMC Hummer EV, Rivian R1T, Chevy Silverado EV, GMC Sierra EV, and Ram 1500 REV. With its futuristic design, the Cybertruck is certainly turning heads.
While the Model 3 made waves in Europe, Tesla’s Model Y crossover SUV stole the show in the United States. With recent price cuts, the Model Y saw a surge in sales, making it the fifth best-selling vehicle in 2023. It also proved to be a strong contender globally, going head-to-head with Toyota’s RAV4 and Corolla family.
But what about Tesla’s flagship sedan, the Model S, and its crossover SUV, the Model X? These models have not been forgotten, especially with the introduction of the tri-motor all-wheel drive Model S Plaid. With a more affordable price tag, starting at just $90k in the US and 110k euro in Germany, the Model S Plaid is giving traditional ICE-powered vehicles a run for their money. With 1,020 electric horsepower, it can outperform most non-electric cars on the market.
To showcase the power of the Model S Plaid, the KaRace YouTube channel organized a race on the airstrip of a local airfield. The Porsche 911 Carrera GTS, known for its performance and pedigree, was pitted against the Model S Plaid. Despite a couple of failed launches, the drivers eventually mastered the launch control and gave us an exciting quarter-mile race. Even though the Porsche 911 is a 473-hp sports car, it couldn’t keep up with the sheer speed of the Model S Plaid.
Even on an unprepped surface, the Tesla Model S Plaid proved its dominance with two impressive 9.1 and 9.2 ETs in the quarter-mile race. It also achieved a remarkable 2.1-second sprint to 62 mph. The Model S Plaid continues to reign as the king of the nine-second passes, leaving competitors in awe.
In the world of electric vehicles, Tesla’s Model S Plaid is a force to be reckoned with. Its impressive performance and affordability make it a top choice for those seeking speed and power. With Tesla’s ongoing innovations, it’s clear that the future of automotive is electric.
