The Petty family is celebrating their 75th anniversary in the world of Motorsports in 2024.
In the upcoming 2024 Daytona 500, a seven-time NASCAR Cup champion will make his debut with Toyota. He will be driving the No:84 Camry for Legacy Motor Club. Johnson co-wons LMC with businessman Maury Gallagher. The previous owner of the team, a seven-time champion, still holds a small stake in it.
Johnson, who was recently inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame, will race at Great America with a special tribute paint scheme. The car, sponsored by Carvana, will feature the iconic Petty Blue as the base color. The design is inspired by the Chrysler Plymouth from the 1964 Daytona 500, a race that Petty won impressively.
The car will also incorporate other elements from the Plymouth, such as chrome accents and white lettering. It will prominently display the “Petty 75” logo, which commemorates the family’s 75th year in racing. Richard Petty, when discussing the tribute, expressed his happiness and pride, seeing it as a testament to the Petty family’s racing legacy.
Johnson, in reference to the paint scheme, emphasized his meaningful relationship with Richard Petty, his son, and the rest of the family. Through this tribute, he aims to celebrate their legacy while also honoring his own 21-year career that led him to the prestigious stock car racing Hall of Fame.
The 2024 season will mark a new chapter for Legacy MC as they take their first steps towards becoming championship contenders. They view the move to Toyota as a strategic decision and understand that their performance this season will determine their place in the TRD garage.
