Setellantis celebrated this Thursday, November 23, the official opening of its SUSTAINera circular economy Hub (CE Hub) at the Mirafiori Complex in Turin, Italy.
Based on the 4R strategy: Rebuild, Repair, Reuse, and Recycle, the objective of the CE Hub is to extend the lifespan of parts and vehicles, ensuring they last as long as possible.
When that is no longer possible, end-of-life material is collected for recycling through the rebuilding activity and end-of-life vehicle dismantling activity, and then reintroduced into the manufacturing cycle for the construction of new vehicles and parts.
The CE Hub initially integrates four activities that implement the 4R strategy, with the aim of expanding its scope of application: Reconstruction of used, worn, or defective components, such as engines, gearboxes, and EV batteries, are disassembled, cleaned, and rebuilt according to the original specifications of the parts manufacturers, maintaining the same level of quality; Sorting Center (Reconstruction, Recycling): it is estimated that 2.5 million worn parts, known as cores, will supply the refabrication and recycling activities of the facility until 2025, increasing to 8 million by 2030; Vehicle reconditioning (Repair, Reconstruction, and Reuse): vehicles will be aesthetically and mechanically repaired using new, rebuilt, or used parts, and then reintroduced through SPOTiCAR; as well as vehicle dismantling (Recycling, Reconstruction, and Reuse): at the end of their life cycle, vehicles become a valuable resource for the reconstruction of parts, reuse, or material for recycling.
