DS Automobiles is exploring the possibility of bringing the SM Tribute to the production line, a concept presented by the brand in September that pays homage to the iconic French model.
In an interview with “TopGear”, Thierry Metroz, the design director of DS, confirmed that the brand is studying the feasibility of launching a limited edition of the SM Tribute, which was showcased as a design study at the latest Chantilly Arts & Elegance event held in northern France.
Moreover, the idea of “resurrecting” the SM is not seen as absurd by Metroz, as according to the design director of DS, the concept was built using parts from Maserati models, specifically the redesigned platform of the 2024 GraTurismo.
It should be noted that the original SM launched in 1970 used parts from Maserati, including its V6 engine, so it is to be expected that a new version of the iconic model may utilize Maserati’s current 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6, which delivers up to 550 hp in the GranTurismo.
As for the possibility of it being a 100% electric model, Thierry Metroz hinted that a limited production version would not succeed if it were an electric vehicle. “When you buy a million-euro car, no one wants an electric vehicle,” Metroz said in an interview with TopGear.
