Arrow McLaren has selected Callum Ilott to replace the injured David Malukas in their preseason test. The test will take place at Homestead-Miami Speedway, giving Ilott the chance to familiarize himself with the car and the team. If everything goes well, Ilott may be called upon to compete in the first race of the season in the #6 entry. Malukas suffered a wrist injury in a mountain biking accident, resulting in a recovery time of six to seven weeks, which means he will miss the start of the 2024 IndyCar season. Ilott expressed his sympathy for Malukas and the team, while also being grateful for the opportunity to assist. He recently underwent a seat fitting with Arrow McLaren and will join Pato O’Ward and Alexander Rossi at the test. While a final decision has not been made, it seems highly probable that Ilott will be driving in the race in St. Petersburg. Team Principal Gavin Ward mentioned that they are considering options with the crew for the #6 NTT DATA Arrow McLaren Chevrolet car in the meantime. Ilott, who recently ended his partnership with Juncos Hollinger Racing, is available to fill in for the first round of the IndyCar season. He already has a racing deal for the 2024 WEC season but has a gap in his schedule that aligns with the St. Pete race. Additionally, there is a chance that Ilott may be approached to participate in the $1 million challenge from The Thermal Club.
