Italy is committed to increasing car production and in this regard is looking for brands willing to install production units in the country.
In this sense, Blomberg reports that the Minister of Industry of the Italian Government confirmed in a hearing in Parliament that the executive of the Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, has already tried to find out about the interest of Tesla, as well as BYD, in installing production units in Italy.
“We have had some contacts on this topic,” revealed Michael Shu, director of BYD Europe, in statements to “Reuters“.
Recall that BYD recently announced that it will install its first production unit in Europe, in Hungary, and has not yet decided whether to build a second factory on the “old continent”.
The Italian government aims to attract new car manufacturers to install production units in the country in order to produce at least 1.3 million vehicles per year to preserve its automotive industry due to the challenges posed by the transition to electric mobility.
Stellantis is currently the only conventional car manufacturer operating in Italy and, last year, produced approximately 750,000 vehicles.
