42% of Formula 1 races are currently held on circuits located in Europe. Sergio Perez, a professional driver, expressed his admiration for Formula 1’s efforts to expand to new locations outside of Europe. The recent reintroduction of the Chinese Grand Prix is a testament to this. In recent years, Formula 1 has added new tracks to its calendar, including three tracks in the United States. This strategy involves replacing traditional circuits that have not delivered exciting races with more diverse locations.
According to Perez, it is always advantageous for Formula 1 to visit locations where the sport is highly valued by its supporters. He believes that the evolution of Formula 1 into a global sport has been evident to everyone. Perez sees this expansion beyond its European roots as a promising path to a bright future for the sport.
In the past, Formula 1 was predominantly dominated by races held in Europe. However, as the sport gained popularity worldwide, races became more geographically diverse. While Europe still accounts for the majority of races, at 42%, the rest of the world is also actively involved. North and South America together represent 25% of the races, while the remaining 33% are spread across Australia and Asia.
The 2024 season holds great significance for Sergio Perez, especially after a challenging season in 2023 with Red Bull. Max Verstappen, a three-time world champion, won 20 out of the 22 races in the previous season, while Perez struggled in the RB19 car, scoring significantly fewer points than Verstappen.
Helmut Marko, a key figure at Red Bull, acknowledges Perez’s overall ability as a driver, but believes he shines in fast cars like the RB18, which suited his style better. Marko also recognizes the pressure on Perez to stand out, as he consistently finished behind his teammate in races. However, Marko currently maintains a good relationship with Verstappen and Perez.
Perez must now demonstrate his skills on the track and challenge his teammate, Max Verstappen, using the same equipment. There are also other drivers within the Red Bull team who have the potential to challenge Verstappen.
