Guenther Steiner, an Italian presenter from RTL F1 TV, believes that downplaying Haas’ prospects for the 2024 Formula 1 season was a mistake. Steiner, who was the former team principal of Haas, did not have his contract renewed after the team finished last in the Constructors’ Championship last year. The new boss, Ayao Komatsu, had warned that the late change in the team’s concept would put them at a disadvantage compared to their rivals. However, the VF-24 proved to be a competitive car in the midfield, scoring double points in Australia. Steiner revealed that he was aware of Haas’ potential from wind tunnel data and disagreed with the approach taken by his successor. He believes that downplaying expectations was unnecessary and that the team should focus on the medium term, rather than just one season. Steiner also credited the team and Simone Resta, former technical director, for the work done on the car. Despite his surprising departure, Steiner harbors no ill feelings and is happy with the team’s success. He acknowledges the hard work of the technical team in Italy and looks forward to seeing what the future holds.
