The Mercedes junior driver, Doriane Pin, has joined the Iron Dames for her debut in the Alpine Formula Regional European Championship (FRECA). Alongside the first F1 Academy champion, Marta Garcia, Pin will compete in the two cars of the women’s motorsport project in the 2024 season. This decision is part of the project’s expansion plan into various forms of motorsport. The Iron Dames recently signed two young karting drivers after a successful recruitment event, following their success in endurance racing and rallying.
Pin, a Frenchwoman, has been a member of the Iron Dames since 2021, initially competing for the women’s team Iron Lynx in the GT3 class of the Le Mans Cup. Now, she will join Marta Garcia, who recently joined the Iron Dames and will make her fully funded debut in FRECA in May. Pin expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to participate in this championship and her excitement for the new challenge. She is determined to make the most of it and is thrilled to take another important step in single-seater motorsport alongside the Iron Dames and Mercedes. Together with Marta, they aim to inspire girls around the world to courageously pursue their dreams in motorsport.
At just 20 years old, Pin has already achieved success in endurance racing and is starting to shine in single-seaters. In the 2022 Ferrari Challenge, she won nine out of 14 races, securing the title in the final round with 10 pole positions and 11 fastest laps. In 2023, Pin joined the Iron Lynx team for the European Le Mans Series, partnering with Iron Dames Sarah Bovy and Michelle Gatting. Together, they secured a pole position and the team’s first victory in the season finale.
Pin officially debuted in the FIA World Endurance Championship in 2023, driving for Prema in the LMP2 category alongside Mirko Bortolotti and Daniil Kvyat, after impressing in a rookie test in Bahrain. After a successful first season, she secured a full-time spot on the Iron Dames team for 2024, competing in the LMGT3 category of the WEC with Bovy and Gatting as her teammates. In 2023, Pin also made her single-seater debut, briefly racing for Prema in the Formula 4 SEA Championship, where she finished second in the championship. She then competed in the Formula 4 UAE Championship before being nominated for the F1 Academy 2024 grid as a junior driver for Mercedes.
Pin’s dominance was evident in the first round of the women’s series in Jeddah, where she took pole positions and led every lap in Races 1 and 2. However, she lost her win in Race 2 for crossing the finish line twice.
Deborah Mayer, founder of the Iron Dames, expressed her excitement at the team’s entry into FRECA with Doriane and Marta. This decision represents another milestone in their mission to support and encourage the most talented women in the world of motorsport.
Upon joining the Iron Dames, Garcia shared her enthusiasm, stating that becoming an Iron Dame is a tremendous opportunity for her present and future. She acknowledged the significant impact that the Iron Dames program has had on women in motorsport and expressed her pride in being part of the team.
After the announcement of Pin’s participation in FRECA, Garcia expressed her happiness in joining the Iron Dames program at FRECA. She eagerly awaits the start of the season and is committed to working hard to ensure the success of the project and showcase her potential. Garcia is also excited to collaborate with Doriane, believing that their partnership will be fruitful and contribute to the progress and achievements of the team. She expressed her gratitude to the Iron Dames for this opportunity and is determined to make the most of it.
The opening of the FRECA season in Hockenheim is scheduled for May 12, when Pin and Garcia will unveil the iconic Iron Dames livery for the team’s debut in single-seaters.
Pin’s signing for a full season in FRECA raises concerns about potential scheduling conflicts with her commitments to the F1 Academy and WEC. The FRECA calendar coincides with the 6 Hours races in Spa, São Paulo, and Fuji, as well as the F1 Academy round in Barcelona.
As two highly respected female drivers in the world of motorsport, the all-female team will represent the most successful female motorsport project in history as they take on the German circuit.
