Aurelia Nobels, a pilot from the Ferrari Academy, recently joined the F1 Academy for the 2024 season. This partnership is sponsored by Puma and she will be racing for ART Grand Prix. Nobels earned her spot in the F1 Academy after winning her category in the FIA Girls On Track Rising Stars program. As part of the new rule changes, the F1 Academy has formed a collaboration with Formula 1 to provide more direct funding for the all-female series and nominate drivers for the grid. Puma, the official partner of the F1 Academy, nominated Nobels for the grid and provided her with a custom Puma livery and personalized racing suits.
Nobels, who is 17 years old, was born in Boston to Belgian parents. She moved to Brazil when she was young and worked her way up through regional karting championships. Her success in the Girls on Track Rising Stars program led her to secure a spot in the Ferrari Driver Academy. In 2022, she competed in the Brazilian F4 Championship with TMG Racing and finished the season in 16th place, with seven points. She then moved on to the Danish Formula 4, where she finished in 18th place. For the 2023 season, she joined Prema Racing in the Italian F4 Championship, after switching teams from Iron Lynx. Nobels also briefly raced in the United Arab Emirates F4 Championship under the Brazilian flag before joining the F1 Academy for her second season. In the first round in Jeddah, she scored six points while competing alongside Bianca Bustamente from McLaren and Lia Block from Williams as part of the ART Grand Prix team.
In an interview with F1 Academy, Nobels expressed her desire to achieve victory in the upcoming races. However, she acknowledged the immense challenge she faces due to the high level of competition. Nevertheless, she remains optimistic and hopes to demonstrate her potential by being at the front of the pack and competing for wins. She also expressed the possibility of future opportunities if she can effectively showcase her skills.
Nobels emphasized her readiness and belief in her abilities as a top-tier driver. She recognized the difficulties presented by unfamiliar tracks, but pointed out that they offer a level playing field for all competitors. She is determined to quickly learn the tracks and make informed decisions about the best strategies to adopt.
In the first race of the 2024 F1 Academy opening season in Jeddah, Nobels secured a respectable seventh place. However, her second race ended prematurely due to an incident on the track, resulting in her retirement. Despite this setback, she remains positive and motivated for the upcoming races.
Regarding her limited experience on various tracks before this season, Nobels admitted that it poses a challenge. Barcelona and Abu Dhabi are the only tracks where she has driven before. However, she is determined to adapt quickly and make the necessary adjustments to her driving style.
Nobels expressed her joy and gratitude for the opportunity to represent the renowned brand PUMA on the track. She recognizes the importance of being associated with such a prominent and influential brand, emphasizing that this does not happen every day. She remains hopeful and excited about the possibilities that lie ahead.
Looking ahead to the second round of the seven-race season, which will take place at the Miami International Speedway on May 4th, Nobels aims to achieve podium finishes in both races. She intends to showcase her skills and make her mark in the highly competitive field.
