Newey’s future destination after his departure from Red Bull has not been announced yet, but it is widely speculated that he may join Ferrari. However, Sergio Perez believes that regardless of the team Newey joins, his vast experience will immediately benefit the team.
When asked about Newey’s departure from Red Bull during the drivers’ press conference for the Miami GP, Perez expressed his disappointment. He acknowledged Newey’s huge contribution to the team and organization, emphasizing their close friendship. However, Perez also recognized that after almost two decades at Red Bull, Newey may be seeking new challenges and opportunities.
Despite Newey’s departure, Perez remains confident in the strength of Red Bull as a team. He praised the organization and highlighted the skills of individuals like Pierre Wache, Enrico Balbo, and Ben Waterhouse in the aerodynamics group. Perez believes that even without Newey, Red Bull is well prepared for the future.
However, Perez acknowledged that any Formula 1 team that Newey joins in the future will immediately benefit from his experience. He emphasized Newey’s impact on Red Bull’s philosophy and his ability to influence not only design but also race weekend strategies and setups. Perez concluded by stating that Newey’s presence will certainly have a significant impact, but it is important to recognize that he would also need a strong team around him.
