Connor De Phillippi achieved a time significantly faster than any other participant in the first practice session for the IMSA SportsCar Weekend at Road America. Although his time was eventually surpassed in the final five minutes by Filipe Albuquerque, who set a time of 1m51.089s in the No. 10 Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti, De Phillippi’s lap in the No. 25 BMW M Team RLL M Hybrid V8 was still impressive at 1m51.5s. Albuquerque expressed his satisfaction with his performance but acknowledged that the track conditions were challenging. The session was cut short due to a car getting stuck in the gravel, potentially preventing further improvements in lap times. Sebastien Bourdais and Felipe Nasr also achieved impressive times, rounding out the top three.
In the LMP2 category, Paul DiResta from United Autosports dominated with a lap time of 1m53.486s in the No. 22 ORECA. Tom Dillman from Inter Europol by PR1 Mathiasen Motorsports followed behind, 0.607s slower than DiResta. In the GTD category, Frederik Schandorff from Inception Racing McLaren 720S GT3 Evo set the fastest time, surpassing the competition by 0.629s. Antonio Garcia from Corvette Racing by Pratt Miller Motorsports led the GTD PRO field.
The second practice session for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship at Road America will take place tomorrow morning.
