Credit: LAT Images / WTRAndretti GTP driver Filipe Albuquerque will make a one-off appearance in the LMP2 category with United Autosports USA at the next round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship in Canada. For IMSA’s only trip to Canada, Canadian Tire Motorsport Park will host the Chevrolet Grand Prix, a 2 hour and 40 minute sprint race on July 14th. Due to a scheduling conflict with the FIA World Endurance Championship’s 6 Hours of Sao Paulo, Paul di Resta will not be able to fulfill his duties in the #22 Oreca 07 LMP2 car as he will be busy as a WEC Peugeot Hypercar driver. In his place, Albuquerque will join Daniel Goldburg for the Chevrolet GP. This race is one of two in 2024 that will not feature the GTP category, with only the LMP2, GTD, and GTD Pro classes participating. “I’m very excited to race at Mosport [Canadian Tire Motorsport Park] with United,” said Albuquerque, who has a strong connection with the team. “We will be competing for the overall win. I’ve already had the chance to meet Daniel [Goldburg] and we had a great connection. Plus, I had a good warm-up at Le Mans to get back into LMP2. We want to fight for the win, no doubt.” “It’s always a pleasure to race with Filipe,” added United Autosports CEO Richard Dean. “… So, with Paul fulfilling his commitments with Peugeot in the WEC, it was an easy decision. Filipe is extremely fast, reliable, and a fantastic mentor for other drivers… I’m confident that Daniel will learn a lot from him in Canada. Unfortunately, the 24 Hours of Le Mans didn’t go as planned for Filipe and the United Autosports #23 LMP2 team this year, so this is our chance to celebrate victory together in 2024.” The Portuguese driver will join four other GTP category drivers in LMP2 machines – Pipo Derani for AF Corse, Louis Deletraz for AO Racing, Renger van der Zande for Tower Motorsports – at CTMP.
