The American tennis player, Amanda Anisimova, was overwhelmed with emotion as she reached her first WTA 1000 final, triumphing over Emma Navarro at the Canadian Masters. Anisimova sealed her victory with a score of 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 in the semifinals, setting the stage for an exciting clash with defending champion Jessica Pegula.
Following her winning shot against Navarro, Anisimova couldn’t contain her feelings and covered her face with both hands. As she shook hands with Navarro at the net, the 22-year-old’s face radiated with pure joy.
After the formalities were completed, Anisimova took a moment to savor the experience, once again concealing her face with her hands. She then raised her racket in gratitude towards the crowd for their unwavering support. The WTA shared a video capturing this heartfelt moment on social media.
Anisimova’s triumph over Emma Navarro marked her fourth victory against a Top 20 player throughout the week. Prior to this, she had defeated Aryna Sabalenka (World No. 3), Anna Kalinskaya (No. 12), and Daria Kasatkina (No. 10). Additionally, she had previously overcome former World No. 2 Paula Badosa in the third round of the Australian Open earlier this year.
Expressing her thoughts after her victory against Navarro in Canada, Anisimova described it as a significant achievement. Ranked at No. 132 in the world, she expressed surprise at her performance throughout the week and expressed her hunger for further success.
Anisimova has yet to secure a win against Jessica Pegula in their two previous encounters. However, she can draw inspiration from their recent match on the green clay of Charleston earlier this year, where the match concluded with a thrilling third-set tiebreak.
