Pecco Bagnaia concluded a dominant MotoGP weekend at the Dutch TT with a victory in Sunday’s Grand Prix. The Ducati rider led from start to finish, crossing the line 3.6 seconds ahead of Pramac rival Jorge Martin. This win reduced the gap between them in the championship standings to just 10 points.
Martin, who received a three-place penalty, faced an even more challenging task starting fifth on the grid. Despite quickly moving up to third and overtaking Maverick Vinales, Martin couldn’t keep up with Bagnaia’s impressive pace.
The battle for the final podium position was intense throughout the race. Vinales faced early challenges from the Gresini duo, Marc and Alex Marquez, before Fabio Di Giannantonio joined the fight. However, it was Enea Bastianini, a rider from the Ducati factory team, who secured third place. Starting from 11th on the grid, Bastianini made an incredible charge in the final stages of the race, gaining eight positions from start to finish.
Meanwhile, Alex Marquez, who initially started in third place due to Martin’s penalty, was quickly overtaken by Martin and dropped down the rankings. Marc Marquez, Alex’s brother, claimed fourth place on the first lap by overtaking Vinales at Turn 5.
By the third lap, Bagnaia had extended his lead to nearly a second, setting the fastest lap on the second lap. The battle for the fastest lap continued between Bagnaia and Martin, but Bagnaia managed to open up a 1.2-second advantage on the sixth lap. Marc Marquez stayed close behind, with Vinales and Di Giannantonio in pursuit. Di Giannantonio eventually overtook Vinales for fourth place at the final chicane.
An unusual moment occurred for Marquez in the eighth lap, when he apparently let Di Giannantonio pass for third place, gesturing for him to go ahead. Vinales was close behind the two riders.
Bastianini’s performance improved significantly in the last 10 laps. He set the second fastest lap time on the track, advancing through the pack. Bastianini overtook Pedro Acosta to secure sixth place on the 17th lap. On the 19th lap, Vinales took over third place ahead of a slowing Marquez and Di Giannantonio. One lap later, Bastianini passed Di Giannantonio for fifth place and then overtook Marquez at Turn 1 on the 21st lap to secure fourth place.
With three laps remaining, Bastianini managed to overtake Vinales, but the gap to the leading duo was too large. Bastianini settled for third place, finishing seven seconds behind Bagnaia. Vinales made a mistake, running wide in the final left turn, allowing Marc Marquez to regain fourth place. Vinales was further penalized for exceeding track limits, dropping to sixth place behind Di Giannantonio.
In a late twist, Pedro Acosta suffered a devastating crash, taking him out of contention. Brad Binder, who was in seventh place, became the top KTM rider. Alex Marquez finished in eighth place, followed by Raul Fernandez of Trackhouse Racing in ninth place.
Franco Morbidelli of Pramac secured tenth place, leading Jack Miller of KTM and Fabio Quartararo, the factory Yamaha rider. Johann Zarco was the top Honda rider, finishing 13th for LCR.
Augusto Fernandez finished in 14th place for Tech3 GasGas, ahead of Miguel Oliveira from Trackhouse Racing. Oliveira received a long lap penalty for exceeding track limits on lap 16, but encountered further problems when he fell in the gravel while serving the penalty, resulting in a second long lap.
Takaaki Nakagami from LCR crossed the finish line in 16th place, while Luca Marini, another Honda rider, finished the race in last place after going through the gravel at Turn 4.
Factory Yamaha rider Alex Rins suffered a crash at Turn 1, and VR46 Ducati rider Marco Bezzecchi fell at Turn 5 on the fourth lap. Although Bezzecchi got back up, he retired from the race two laps later.
Honda rider Joan Mir, who has been facing difficulties this season, also fell at Turn 4 on the seventh lap.
