After some rumors, BMW now seems willing to equip the Z4 M40i with a six-speed manual transmission, the same one used by the M2, in the purest way, which, if confirmed, will be the first time that the current generation of the Z4, launched in 2019, will have a clutch pedal.
Recall that the current Z4 M40i uses an eight-speed ZF automatic gearbox that is coupled to BMW’s turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine, which produces a power of 335 hp.
In this way, BMW follows the same steps as Toyota, which decided to equip the GR Supra with a six-speed manual gearbox last year, and it is certain that the Z4 M40i will not use Toyota’s manual transmission.
BMW has not yet revealed whether the manual variant of the Z4 M40i will be produced in a limited number of units and if it will be available in all markets.
