The Cleveland Browns are keeping fans guessing about Nick Chubb’s return, as the team avoids setting a hard date for their star running back’s comeback. Chubb returned to practice last week, beginning his 21-day window to rejoin the active roster, but head coach Kevin Stefanski isn’t making any promises for Week 6 against the Eagles. “It’s really a day-to-day thing,” Stefanski said. “See how they come out of today. Let’s see how they do Thursday.”
Chubb has stayed similarly cautious. “I never had a date set in mind,” he shared, leaving the timing up to when he feels 100% ready. After suffering a season-ending knee injury in Week 2 last year, requiring two surgeries to repair his ACL and MCL, both he and the Browns seem determined to take their time.
Meanwhile, Cleveland’s offense could use a lift. With just 96.6 rushing yards per game, they rank near the bottom of the league. Jerome Ford has handled most of the running duties, posting 250 yards on 48 carries with one touchdown, but the team is missing Chubb’s 5.3-yard-per-carry consistency. The Browns’ offense, led by Deshaun Watson, has struggled to find its rhythm, with Watson completing just 852 passing yards, 5 touchdowns, and 3 interceptions. He’s also been sacked a league-high 26 times, leading to mounting frustration.
There’s been growing criticism of Watson’s performance, and while the calls to bench him grow louder, Stefanski remains firm in his support. “We have to focus on what’s going on inside of our building,” Stefanski stated, ignoring the national outcry. With the Eagles matchup ahead, the Browns need to rally and simplify their approach to get their season back on track. For now, they’ll be holding their breath, hoping Chubb can return soon to inject some much-needed energy into the offense.
