Bubba Watson, the two-time Masters champion, has confirmed his next move following a challenging season that saw him relegated from LIV Golf. After finishing below the drop line, Watson is shifting his focus to the Asian Tour, with plans to compete in the upcoming Indonesian Masters later this month.
Despite initial expectations that his role as captain of the RangeGoats would shield him from relegation, the LIV Golf league clarified that all players, including captains, could face the drop. Following his relegation in Chicago last month, Watson hinted at a potential return to LIV Golf in 2025, should he be welcomed back by his team.
In a recent statement, Watson expressed his enthusiasm for the Asian Tour, stating, “I have really enjoyed playing in tournaments overseas and I am really excited about playing in Indonesia for the first time. I love soaking in the sights and sounds and seeing the diverse mixture of players out here.”
He also highlighted the significance of the BNI Indonesian Masters, noting its role in The International Series, which provides a pathway to the LIV Golf League. “I’m a big believer in LIV Golf and I’m proud of the impact it has had on the game of golf worldwide,” he added.
Watson has been candid about his performance and future in golf, previously stating, “If my team doesn’t think I am good enough to play, they can kick me out.” He emphasized his commitment to mentoring younger players, stating, “I love helping the young guys… I want to be there for them and help them.”
As he prepares for this new chapter, Watson remains optimistic about his game and aims to continue competing at a high level. “With the way I’m training, maybe I can keep going until I’m 50,” he remarked, inspired by the successes of fellow golfers like Phil Mickelson.
With his focus now on the Asian Tour, golf fans will be eagerly watching how Watson adapts and performs in the coming months.
