It was a landmark weekend for Colorado football fans as the Buffaloes (6-2) achieved bowl eligibility for the first time since 2020, defeating Cincinnati (5-3) 34-23 in a thrilling home game in Boulder. This victory was made even sweeter by the return of Travis Hunter, who, back to full fitness after a shoulder injury in Week 7 against Kansas State, delivered an incredible two-way performance.
Hunter was a force on both sides of the ball, scoring two touchdowns, racking up 153 receiving yards, and breaking up four passes on defense. After the game, his head coach, Deion Sanders, declared him “the best football player in the country.” Yet, fans would argue that the title still belongs to NFL star Patrick Mahomes, though Hunter himself might agree, given his admiration for the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback.
Hunter, however, is a lifelong San Francisco 49ers fan—a loyalty he recently shared in a fan Q&A on The Travis Hunter Show on YouTube. When asked what made him a fan, the 21-year-old explained, “I grew up a 49ers fan, bro. My whole family is 49ers fans. What else was I going to say? All I see on the TV is the 49ers.”
Reflecting on last season’s Super Bowl loss with a smile, he admitted, “I was waiting for the moment for us to whoop them, bro,” highlighting the lasting devotion he has for his childhood team, even as he looks toward a promising future in the NFL.
As Hunter continues to impress with his college performances, he’s undoubtedly positioning himself for a successful career at the next level, where his 49ers might one day become rivals rather than role models.
