As NATO members bolster their defense spending in response to rising global threats, Canada, led by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, continues to fall short. Despite being the sixth largest economy in NATO, Canada spends a meager 1.37% of its GDP on defense—well below NATO’s 2% target. While allies like the U.S. and Poland invest heavily in their militaries, Canada’s underfunding weakens the alliance and leaves North American security exposed.
With Arctic tensions rising and Russia and China expanding their presence in the region, Trudeau’s failure to prioritize defense is a dangerous gamble. Canadians—and NATO—deserve better.
