After setbacks in the USGA Championship, Charlie Woods, the son of golf legend Tiger Woods, is finally relishing the thrill of victory as he leads his high school team through a remarkable postseason run. Representing The Benjamin School, Charlie and his teammates emerged victorious at the District 13-1A Championship at the Championship Club at Summerfield, securing their place in the regionals with a team score of 291, narrowly edging out Oxbridge Academy by two strokes.
Charlie’s standout performance continued at the Class 1A Region 4 Tournament at Miami Shores Country Club, where his team clinched second place after a rocky start. The Bucs finished just four strokes behind Fort Lauderdale’s Pine Crest School, who led with a 7-under 277. Benjamin High’s head coach, Toby Harbeck, voiced his optimism about the team’s journey, saying, “The main objective today was to finish first or second. We wanted to win, but more than anything, we wanted the opportunity to defend our title.”
With their place in the State Championship secured, Charlie Woods and his team are set to compete for the title at the Mission Inn Resort & Club in Howey-in-the-Hills on November 12-13. The team has high hopes for capturing their second postseason title of the year.
Both Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren were in attendance to support their son, sparking attention as they shared a golf cart to follow the action. Tiger sported a relaxed look with a white ball cap, sunglasses, a polo, and navy shorts, while Nordegren donned a “Buccaneers” T-shirt, cheering on her son. Tiger’s pride was evident as Charlie recorded birdies on holes 6, 12, and 13, finishing at par for the day after a few early bogeys.
The scene on the 18th green was a touching one, as Charlie completed his final putt and was met with a congratulatory embrace from his mother. Known for his 15 major titles and competitive spirit, Tiger had a quiet but proud moment with his son on the 12th hole, exchanging a few words of encouragement.
With all eyes on Charlie as he steps into the State Championship spotlight, the young Woods is on a path that golf fans across the country are eagerly watching.
