Racing is not the sole sport that Chase Elliott has an affinity for. Only a select few are aware of his deep passion for Golf. On the Dale Jr. Download podcast, the Hendrick Motorsports sensation revealed his love for being outdoors and playing the sport. In a recent lighthearted Coca-Cola video, where athletes were asked which sport they would choose to play in the Olympics, Elliott’s response was Golf.
If he hadn’t pursued a career as a NASCAR driver, there is a possibility that we would have witnessed him making a name for himself on the PGA tours. Expressing his excitement and extending his support to the USA Olympic Golf team, he wished them the best of luck.
When Elliott isn’t behind the wheel, he can often be found on the Golf course. He shared that his interest in the sport peaked during his time with Dale Jr.’s team in the Xfinity series. During the podcast episode, he spoke about his passion for Golf, saying, “I thoroughly enjoy playing Golf. I have been moderately serious about it for five years and have become quite dedicated in the past year and a half. I find immense pleasure in it. Although I am still not very skilled, I genuinely enjoy playing it.”
Elliott admitted that despite playing for several years, he hasn’t improved as much as he would have liked, which can be quite frustrating. In a humorous note, he mentioned that at times, he feels like he’s regressing. Nevertheless, he continues to derive great joy from the sport.
Currently, the Golf event is underway at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Xander Schauffele from the USA leads the pack, tied for first place with Spain’s Jon Rahm. Scottie Scheffler is the second highest-ranked player on the USA men’s Golf team, finishing sixth after round three. Before their final round, Chase Elliott took to social media to send a heartfelt video message to the team. He expressed, “Hey guys, it’s Chase Elliott here. I just wanted to take a moment to wish Scottie Scheffler and all the guys on the USA Golf team the best of luck in the Olympics.”
Given the opportunity, Chase Elliott himself would have loved to participate in Golf at the Olympics, as he mentioned in an Instagram video sponsored by Coca-Cola. Another NASCAR veteran, Denny Hamlin, also expressed his interest in playing Golf at the Olympics but acknowledged that he wouldn’t match the skill level of the Olympians. He humbly stated, “I have played with some professional Golfers. I am well aware that I am nowhere near as proficient as they are. While it may be a dream, it’s a wish that I would never be able to fulfill at their caliber.” Golf is a popular sport among NASCAR drivers.
Seven-time NASCAR Champion Jimmie Johnson is an avid Golfer who frequently enjoys rounds on the course during his leisure time. He has showcased his Golfing skills in celebrity tournaments such as the Quail Hollow Championship Pro-Am. Recently, Johnson has made significant improvements in his game. He recently posted on social media, inviting people to join him in a fundraiser event at Pebble Beach, where he demonstrated his putting skills.
Ryan Blaney is another NASCAR driver who enjoys playing Golf. He often plays with Chase Elliott. During an interview on the ESPN 101 podcast, he expressed his love for the sport, stating, “I am a passionate Golfer. I derive great pleasure from playing Golf. I started about four years ago, even though it wasn’t a part of my upbringing. It wasn’t a family activity, but I decided to give it a try. I became a Golfer during the COVID-19 pandemic. It was one of the few things you could do, and I fell in love with it.”
