The Chinese group Chery confirmed on Friday that it will have a factory in Europe, in Barcelona, Spain, where it will produce the new Omoda 5, both in the gasoline version and in its 100% electric variant.
This decision comes after the Chinese group signed an agreement earlier this week with the Spanish EV-Motors, to explore the former Nissan factory in Catalonia.
Chery, which has brands like Omoda and Jaecoo, takes another step towards strengthening its own structure in Europe, with headquarters in Madrid, and a logistics and distribution service from the port of Barcelona.
With the now confirmed agreement, the two companies create a joint venture, which will allow the Chinese manufacturer to produce its models in Spain, thus having the first production unit in Europe.
It is worth noting that the compact SUV Omoda 5 offers a gasoline variant equipped with a 1.6 turbo gasoline engine with 185 hp and 290 Nm, paired with a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
On the other hand, the 100% electric version is equipped with a 204 hp electric motor, powered by a 61.05 kWh battery, promising a range of 430 km (according to WLTP cycle).
